September has officially gone to the birds: the 17th is Pet Bird Day! While our feathered friends may not be as popular as dogs and cats, they do have some ‘raven’ fans … and with good reason! Read on as a Lexington, KY vet lists some of Polly’s best features.

Conversations

One remarkable thing about our winged pals is their ability to mimic sounds, and even converse. When you have a pet bird, you always have someone to talk to!

While you’ll need to provide Polly with a way to bathe, such as a birdbath, you won’t actually have to bathe her yourself. This is one area where birds are much easier than dogs and even cats!

Birds can form very close bonds to their humans. It can be an amazingly powerful and beautiful experience to have a tiny, fragile being cuddle up to you or hang out on your shoulder.
