Thanksgiving is coming up fast. Your canine companion will be more than happy to help you celebrate the autumn holiday. (Fido will also be willing to lend a helping paw with eating some turkey, but that’s another topic.) If your pup could list the things he is most grateful for, what do you think he would name? A Lexington, KY vet lists some ‘pawsible’ options below.
Food
No surprises here! Go ahead and give Fido something special. Plain, cooked turkey, without the skin, bones, or fat is fine.
Walks
Those daily walks aren’t just important for sanitary reasons. They give Fido a much-appreciated chance to get outside and enjoy some fresh air. Taking your pooch for a stroll is a great way to work off that post-turkey food coma!
Treats
Does your four-legged friend come running at the sound of a food wrapper opening? If so, he’s not alone. Treats rank pretty high on the list of things Fido loves. Snacks are fine, but don’t go overboard. They should only compromise about 5 percent of your pet’s daily caloric intake.
Belly Rubs
Fido is super cute when he’s enjoying getting some attention. Some of our furry buddies are quite the little hams, and want to be petted all the time. Indulge your canine pal’s adorable requests for belly rubs, ear scritches, or back rubs!
Toys
Playing is both fun and beneficial for dogs. This is a great way for them to get their daily doggy workouts in. It also helps them burn off any excess energy they have. Make time to play with Fido daily!
Car Rides
While there are some pups that just prefer to stay home, most of our canine companions absolutely love going for drives and exploring new places. Just keep Fido crated for travel: it’s much safer for both of you.
You
Most importantly, your furry best friend appreciates you! All the love and care you give your pet does not go unnoticed. Fido will show his gratitude in some pretty adorable ways, like wagging his tail, giving you smooches, or perhaps just by sticking close to you. Dogs’ love and loyalty are definitely on the list of things we appreciate!
Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Animal Care Clinic, your Lexington, KY vet clinic. Please do not hesitate to reach out if ever we can be of assistance!
